Testing
Testing is an integral part of our program.
We encourage people buying a puppy from us to test the dog in at least one of the natural ability tests. Either the Natural Ability (NAVHDA), Junior Hunter (AKC), or Derby (NADKC) will supply an idea of your puppy's instincts. Many feel that these are useless "rookie" tests. That could not be further from the truth. What these tests actually show is what the puppy inherited from its parents.
The results of these tests help us guide our breeding program, and maintain the versatile qualities present in our lines. Ideally, we would like for our puppy owners to continue on in other venues, as well as progress to the upper level of testing in those organizations.
While there are some that feel, a "tested
dog" will never work on wild birds as well as a "meat dog", nothing can be further
from the truth. We recognize, and believe, a true versatile hunting dog needs to
be hunted as well as tested. The time spent testing and training, will pay dividends
in the field with a higher level of cooperation, obedience, and conditioning. In
the end you will
have a companion that wants to work with you, as a team. It's a
"Win-Win" situation!
Get Involved
All new puppy owners are encouraged to join NAVHDA, NADKC, or AKC club near them. The people there are of immeasurable help in developing your young dog to the fullest. And the friendships you can gain can last a lifetime!
